John Matkulak

John Matkulak has been involved in all aspects of tennis over the last 30+ years from running large clubs to teaching high level players. His passion lies in growing the game particularly at the junior level in order develop more competitive players coming from the Northern Nevada area. John's expertise in developing high level players comes from his work over the years focusing on the mental and psychological areas of the game that limit most players potential to excel.  His goal at South Reno Tennis is to give all tennis players a positive experience so they continue to enjoy and share all the benefits this great sport has to offer.

Jason Yelley

Jason Yelley made his way to Reno from West Texas where he was district doubles champion and third in the region. He competed in the USTA tournaments as a junior throughout Texas and made it in the top 100 in the Super Champion Division. He then played at the University of Nevada Reno under Ryan Johnston #1 doubles and #3 singles. In 2004, Jason became certified in the USPTA and was the UNR assistant women's coach under coach Richter. Shortly afterwards he started full time at Lakeridge Tennis Club.  During his 18 year term there he created his own USTA 5.0 traveling team and now is currently 8-2 in doubles USTA matches for Washoe's 5.0 team, and attended the Districts Championship last August.

Jason believes that with the proper technique along with the right mindset anything is possible.  His specialty is in training competitive juniors that travel throughout NorCal to play in USTA tournaments.  “Tournament competition is the next step in achieving success in the tennis world.  Without tournament play, you will not be given the experience to better your game.  Wanting to be good at something is simple, be passionate about the sport you desire, work hard and give it your all."

Having a coach that cares about the players is key. If a coach is positive with their players then the players will be positive with their tennis.
